Everyone loves a good mystery – and in this class, we’ll use biology, chemistry and physics to help us solve a few! From the crime scene to the lab, we’ll put science to use as we collect and analyze evidence, interview suspects, and attempt to solve each crime. We’ll analyze fingerprints, footprints and tracks, and use chemical tests to determine the composition of different substances. Through blood typing and blood spatter analysis, we’ll learn what blood left at a scene can tell us about what happened – and who may have been responsible. We’ll use gel electrophoresis to analyze DNA and learn how botany plays a role in forensic investigations, too. At the end of the week, we’ll work in teams to develop a crime scene scenario that will put our classmates’ skills to the test!
