Volunteer Position: Summer Teen Playologist

Volunteer commitment: June 11, 2018 – August 10, 2018

Shift: (1) 4 hour shift per week (minimum)

Reports To:  Manager of Volunteer Services

Supervision:  Guest Services Team

Support:  Front Line Education Team

Join the Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus as a Summer Teen Playologist and work and play in and out of the Museum, including our exciting outdoor experience, Joy Park!  Volunteers have fun facilitating play, engaging with guests, answering questions about the Museum, and keeping exhibit spaces organized and inviting. Summer Teen Playologist volunteers help transform the Museum’s member and guest experiences into one they are sure to remember.

Volunteer Responsibilities Include:

Exhibit Facilitation and Education Assistance:

Outdoor: Joy Park

·         Maintain a welcoming, enthusiastic attitude while interacting with guests

·         Explain exhibit features and components

·         Support safety and security at all Joy Park features, especially in the zip-line and water components (“anchor zones”)

·         Monitor spaces and help ensure safe play

·         Support Museum Staff with opening and closing procedures

Inside: Museum Exhibits including Arts, Assembly Plant and Rockets Facilitation/Reset

·         Welcome guests to exhibit space, help ensure safe play

·         Encourage and model play and appropriate child/adult interactions

·         Help clean, reset and restock exhibits as needed

Guest Service/Retail Assistance:

·         Provide information on daily programs and exhibit activities

·         Help members and guests find their way around the Museum

·         Take pride in maintaining lobby, café and gift shop areas to ensure a clean and safe environment

·         Provide merchandising, pricing and inventory control support for café and gift shop

·         Be an expert source of general Museum information including pricing, exhibit locations and amenities

·         Assist with queuing and line control in the Museum lobby

·         Provide enthusiastic customer service to Museum members and guests

·         Share educational and general Museum information with Museum members and guests

·         Communicate with Museum staff about member, guest and exhibit needs

Position Requirements:  Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

·         One 4-hour shift per week from June 11th-August 10th

·         Must be at least 13 years of age

·         Must be on time for all scheduled shifts and notify supervisor if unable to attend a shift

·         Represent the Museum in a professional manner

Familiarity with the Museum building, operations and staff
·         Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

·         Treat every member and guest with respect and courtesy

·         Communicate effectively in noisy, crowded situations

·         Capable of working individually and/or part of a team

·         Enjoy engaging with the public of all ages, ethnic and cultural backgrounds

·         Self-motivated

·         Love to play and have fun!

Physical Working Conditions and Effort

·         Must be able to move/sit/stand for 4 hours at a time

·         Must be flexible to work both indoors and outdoors during shift
